Classrooms are well-managed and the students are focused. The goal is to maximize classroom hours and prepare students for a professional mindset.
The philosophy...
We believe that a well-managed classroom is the key to academic success. Therefore, the staff is highly-skilled in the science of classroom management so instructional time is maximized. Teachers correct disruptive behavior at the root and maintain consistent expectations that are reinforced each day. Students then get into a routine as their attention span grows over time.
The result is more academic progression and time spent preparing for college. The science of classroom management is often overlooked as a key driver of high performing schools.
"If our American way of life fails the child, it fails us all."
- Pearl S. Buck
Extended Day...
PODER is one of the few schools to offer an extended day program where students are dismissed at 4:00pm, and where tutoring and extra-curricular clubs take place until 5:00pm. The extra instructional time provides a structured environment for students between the hours of 3:00pm and 5:00pm. This is a common window of unsupervised time for students with working parents.
